Surface-mediated organometallic synthesis of [[triple bond, length half m-dash]SiO][RhH2(PMe3)4]+: the first example of a cationic organometallic complex attached to the silica surface by ion pairing

Abstract

The reaction of silica-supported bis(allyl)rhodium, ([triple bond, length half m-dash]SiO)([triple bond, length half m-dash]SiOX(Rh(η3-C3H5)21(X = H, Si[triple bond, length half m-dash]) with PMe3 followed by H2 yields [RhH2(PMe3)4]+, 2, which is characterised by IR, solid-state 31P NMR and elemental analyses and extracted quantitatively from the surface by ion-exchange with Bun4NCl in nitromethane; the counterion of 2 is presumed to be a siloxy group [[triple bond, length half m-dash]SiO] of the silica surface.
