Catalyst-free visible-light-induced decarbonylative C–H alkylation of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones

Abstract

Direct functionalization of C(sp3)–H bonds is an effective, straightforward method for accessing a diverse array of heteroarene derivatives. However, its wide application is limited by the need for the use of catalysts or oxidants. In this study, we developed a mild, eco-friendly, practical photochemical protocol for decarbonylative C–H alkylation reactions of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones and aliphatic aldehydes with air as the oxidant at room temperature. These catalyst- and oxidant-free reactions showed good functional-group tolerance and a broad substrate scope.
