Synthesis of Bridged Oligophenylenes from Fluorene. Part 2.1 Quinquiphenyls to Deciphenyls

Abstract

Organometallic derivatives of aryl bromides 2a10a have been coupled with aryl dihalides 1116 in the presence of PdCl2(dppb) catalyst to produce symmetrical bridged oligophenylenes 1731 and 33 that contain five to ten conjugated benzene rings with one to four dialkylmethylene bridges; these products show useful solubility, high quantum efficiency of fluorescence and good photochemical stability.
