Vapour-liquid equilibrium in the system NOBr + Br2+ NO

Abstract

The partial pressures of NOBr, Br2 and NO over liquid mixtures of NOBr and Br2 have been determined. The non-ideal behaviour of Br2 to which small quantities of NO have been added indicates that below 25° the addition product is mainly NOBr3 and above 40° it is mainly NOBr. The vapour pressure of NOBr is given by the equation log10P(mmHg)= 8.367 75 – 1 577.64/T(K) from which its boiling point is found to be 14.5°C and its latent heat of evaporation 7 200 cal/mole.
