Silver paste nanocomposite electrode as a new metallic electrode for amperometric determination of hydrazine

Abstract

A silver (Ag) paste nanocomposite electrode was used for the determination of hydrazine. This electrode has a high catalytic activity towards electro-oxidation of hydrazine in alkaline media. High stability and antifouling properties make this electrode a good candidate for trace hydrazine determination. Simplicity of electrode fabrication, renewability of the electrode surface, together with high electrocatalytic and adsorption effects, increased degree of active area and surface roughness, low cost and low weight are among the advantageous features of this electrode for hydrazine detection. Repetitive double step amperometry has been introduced as a novel method for the determination of hydrazine. The results show that the present electrode exhibits excellent behavior, including a wide linear range, low detection limit, high sensitivity, fast response time and high repeatability and reproducibility for the amperometric determination of hydrazine. The obtained results display a better activity of the Ag paste nanocomposite electrode towards the oxidation of hydrazine in comparison with a Ag disk electrode and also many previous reported studies.
