Magnetically induced optical bi-stability of the molecular nanomagnet Mn12O12(OOCMe)16(H2O)4 in an organic glass

Abstract

The magnetic hysteresis of the mixed-valence manganese cluster, Mn 12 O 12 (OOCMe) 16 (H 2 O) 4 , (Mn 12 ),1 a molecular superparamagnet,2 can be optically detected in a dilute, frozen organic glass below the blocking temperature of 3.8 K by magnetic circular dichroism spectroscopy.
