The designed ‘self-assembly’ of a three-dimensional molecule containing six quadruply-bonded Mo24+ units

Abstract

Reaction of 1,3,5-tricarboxylatobenzene (trimesic acid) with [Mo2(DAniF)2(MeCN)4][BF4]2 (DAniF = N,N′-di-p-anisylformamidinate) leads to the quantitative formation of a large tetrahedral molecule containing four triply-bridging C6H3(CO2)3 (trimesic acid trianion) groups and six Mo2- (DAniF)2 units; the structure has been determined by X-ray crystallography.
