Lithium l-hydrogen-α-glutamate: A layer structure with asymmetrical tunnels formed by nets with two different macrocycles

Abstract

Anhydrous lithium L-hydrogen-α-glutamate Li[L-α-GluH] crystallizes from water with a layer structure (non-centrosymmetric space group P1) in which the tetracoordinate lithium cations are bridged by the glutamate anions in their ammonium form (–NH3+). The resulting 12- and 16-membered rings allow for tunnels running perpendicular to each other in the layers.
