Comparison of two preparative methods: a polymer-supported catalyst by metal-complexation with a polymeric ligand or by polymerization of a metal complex

Abstract

The difference between two methods for the synthesis of polystyrene-supported (R,S)-BINAPHOS-Rh(I) complex, namely (1) copolymerization of the monomeric ligand with divinylbenzeneethylstyrene and then Rh-complex formation with the polymer-supported ligand, and (2) Rh-complex formation with the monomeric ligand and then immobilization of the Rh complex to polystyrene by copolymerization with divinylbenzeneethylstyrene, is investigated by comparison of their catalytic performance, by surface analysis and particle-size measurement.
