Carbon nanotube–DNA hybrid fluorescent sensor for sensitive and selective detection ofmercury(ii) ion

Abstract

Mercury ion (Hg2+) is able to specifically bind to the thyminethymine (T–T) base pair in a DNA duplex and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) can effectively quench fluorescence of the dye tethered to the DNA, which enables fluorescent detection of Hg2+ in aqueous solution with high selectivity and sensitivity.
