Thiirenium ion as intermediate in unimolecular reactions of β-arylthiovinyl sulphonic esters

Abstract

The equilibration of the two ethylenic carbons and the stereospecificity observed in unimolecular reactions of β-arylthiovinyl sulphonates (I) are explained by the intermediacy of a thiirenium cation (III).
