Modelling the photosynthetic water oxidation centre: synthesis, structure, and magnetic properties of [Mn4O2(OAc)7(biphy)2ClO4]·3H2O (bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine)

Abstract

The synthesis, structure, and magnetic properties of [Mn4O2(OAc)7(bipy)2](ClO4)·3H2O, bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine) are reported; this complex is the first tetranuclear oxide-bridged manganese(III) species and represents the best available model for the photosynthetic water oxidation centre.
