Terminal methylene complexes of ruthenium(II) and osmium(II) and intramolecular methylene and acyl ligand combination to form metallaoxetenes: the crystal structures of [OsCl(η2-C[O]-o-tolyl)([double bond, length half m-dash]CH2)(PPh3)2] and [Ru([double bond, length half m-dash]C[Ph]OCH2)(CN-p-tolyl)2(PPh3)2]ClO4

Abstract

The isolable methylene complexes [MCl(η2-C[O]R)([double bond, length half m-dash]CH2)(PPh3)2](M = Ru, R = Ph, o-tolyl, p-tolyl; M = Os, R =o-tolyl) which result when [MRCl(CO)(PPh3)2] is treated with diazomethane react with carbon monoxide and p-tolylisocyanide to form compounds with the unusual metallaoxetene, [[graphic omitted]H2], ring.
