Insertion of norbornadiene into the aryl–palladium bond; synthesis, structure and dynamics of intramolecular η2-arene palladium species

Abstract

A series of fluxional intramolecular η2-bound arene complexes, (C7H8Ar)Pdl(PPh3), 1a1d, and 2 may be isolated from the catalytic reactions of norbornadiene (or norbornene) with aryl iodides in the presence of Zn and PdCl2(PPh3)2(eqn. 1) and their structures have been determined by X-ray crystallography and NMR spectroscopy.
