The preparation and characterization of the paramagnetic solid bis(1,2,3,4-trithiazolium)bis(hexafluoroarsenate) containing the dioxygen-like dication diradical ˙+SSSNCCNSSS+˙

Abstract

The hexafluoroarsenate salt of ˙+[graphic omitted]+˙1, prepared by the reaction of S8(AsF6)2, S4(AsF6)2 and (CN)2in SO2, is the only known sterically unhindered non-metal diradical, other than dioxygen, that contains two unpaired electrons in the solid state (µ= 2.81 µB at room temp.).
