High performance Li–S battery based on amorphous NiS2 as the host material for the S cathode

Abstract

The amorphous state of a NiS2 host was confirmed as the critical factor for the stability of a Li–S battery. The battery based on this novel host material showed a very high initial specific capacity of 1540 mA h g−1 at 0.1 A g−1 and could retain 77% of the initial capacity after 1200 cycles at 0.5 A g−1.
