Silyl alkylidene complexes free of anionic π ligands (Me3ECH2)2Ta([double bond, length half m-dash]CHEMe3)(SiPh2But)(E = C, Si): PMe3-promoted conversions to bis(alkylidene) complexes through preferential silane elimination

Abstract

Silyl alkylidene complexes (Me3ECH2)2Ta([double bond, length half m-dash]CHEMe3)(SiPh2But)(E = C 1, Si 2) react with PMe3 to form bis(alkylidene) complexes (Me3ECH2)Ta(PMe3)2([double bond, length half m-dash]CHEMe3)2(E = C 3, Si 4; 4 is structurally characterized)via preferential silane elimination, but 2 thermally decomposes to an alkyl alkylidyne compound (Me3SiCH2)4Ta2(µ-CSiMe3)2.
