Effect of electrode material on the product of a branched electrochemical reaction

Abstract

A simple model involving a branched electrochemical reaction with a single absorbed intermediate is set up. The effect of the standard free energy of adsorption of the intermediate on the rates of the component reactions and the nature of the product formed is discussed assuming the adsorption to be Langmuirian. The modification of the behaviour of the system as a result of the presence of a strongly adsorbed inhibitor is investigated. The assumptions involved in this model are assessed.
