Infrared and Raman spectra of addition compounds of sulphoxides with mercury(II) chloride

Abstract

Infrared and Raman spectra between 450 and 200 cm–1 of a large series of adducts of aryl and alkyl sulphoxides with mercury(II) chloride, R1R2SO,mHgCl2, m= 1, 1·5, and 2 have been recorded. The characteristic frequencies of groups Cl–Hg–Cl and Hg–O have been assigned. Spectral features are correlated with the molecular structures of adducts with different ratios of complexation.
