Interaction of tricarbonyl(π-cyclopentadienyl)molybdenum halides and acetylenes

Abstract

Tricarbonyl(π-cyclopentadienyl)molybdenum halides, [(cp)Mo(CO)3X](X = Cl, Br, or I), (cp =η5-C5H6) react with MeC[triple bond, length half m-dash]CMe and CF3[triple bond, length half m-dash]CCF3 to give the 16-electron bisalkyne complexes [(cp)Mo(RC2R)2X] whilst PhC[triple bond, length half m-dash]CPh gives [(cp)Mo(CO)(PhC2Ph)X] and the cyclobutadiene complexes [(cp)Mo(CO)(PhC2Ph)2X].
