Entrapment of a Pt–H bond by a cavity-shaped receptor

Abstract

A new platinum hydride was quantitatively formed in the reaction of trans-[PtH(Cl)(PPh3)2] with 5,11,17,23-tetra-tert-butyl-25,27-bis(diethylcarbamoylmethoxy)-26,28-bis(diphenylphosphinomethoxy)calix[4]arene; X-ray analysis and NMR studies showed that the hydrido ligand is directed into the hemispherical cavity induced around the platinum centre.
