Conductance of some alkali metal halides in dilute aqueous solution at 25°C

Abstract

Precise conductivity results are reported for dilute aqueous solutions of lithium, rubidium and caesium fluorides and for lithium bromide and iodide and sodium iodide at 25°C. The results are analysed in terms of both the full Pitts equation and the latest version of the Fuoss conductivity equation. Association constants are found to fall in the sequences LiF > NaF > KF ≈ RbF > CsF and LiF > LiCl > LiBr > LiI. A value of 55.46 ± 0.11 S cm2 mol–1 is reported for the limiting molar conductivity of the fluoride ion in aqueous solution at 25°C.
