Microwave spectrum of acetyl isocyanate

Abstract

The microwave spectrum of acetyl isocyanate CH3CO . NCO has been analysed. The most intense features arise from both a-type and b-type transitions of the cis form of the molecule. The barrier to internal rotation of the methyl group is found to be 1018 ± 15 cal mol–1(4260 ± 62 J mol–1) and the dipole moment components have been determined as µa= 0.95 D and µb= 1.48 D. A very approximate structure has been derived.
