Recent problems and progress in the study of UO2 and mixed UO2–PuO2

Abstract

We summarise some of the recent areas of progress in the study of UO2 and the related mixed oxide, UO2–PuO2. We consider questions relating to bonding and electronic properties, to defect structure and non-stoichiometry, to high-temperature properties and to the behaviour of fission products. The topics we discuss are all amplified in subsequent papers in this volume.
