The vibrational spectra of sulphur and selenium monohalides

Abstract

The i.r. and Raman spectra of S2Cl2, S2Br2, Se2Cl2, and Se2Br2 have been determined. Considerable care was taken to identify bands due to impurities. The observed vibrational frequencies are not in general agreement with those reported by previous authors. Assignments are proposed and are consistent with those reported on related molecules. The spectra obtained do not contradict the proposed structures of C2 symmetry.
