Reactions of tungsten hexafluoride with alkylalkoxy- and alkylphenoxy-silanes, hexamethyldisiloxane, and dimethyl ether

Abstract

The preparation of a series of methoxy- and phenoxy-tungsten(VI) fluorides WF6–n(OR)n(Me, n= 1–4; Ph, n= 1 or 2), is described. 19F N.m.r. spectra of the compounds indicate that they are monomeric in solution and that in some cases geometric isomers exist. Tungsten hexafluoride reacts with hexamethyldisiloxane and dimethyl ether to give tetrafluoro-oxotungsten(VI) and a 1 : 1 tetrafluoro-oxotungsten(VI)–dimethyl ether complex respectively; the latter compound is also formed by the decomposition of cis-WF4(OMe)2 and its spectra suggest that it is monomeric.
