The mass spectrometry of nitrate esters and related compounds. Part I

Abstract

The mass spectra of 31 nitrate esters have been measured. The compounds fragment in a manner dependent on the number and nature (O·NO2 or OH) of substituents present. Appearance potential measurements yield a value of 7·5 ± 0·2 eV for the ionization potential of the nitro-oxymethyl group, CH2·O·NO2.
