The mass spectrometry of nitrate esters and related compounds. Part II

Abstract

The mass spectra of 2-chloro- and 2-hydroxy-ethyl nitrate and nitroethane have been measured, as has that of nitroethyl nitrate itself. Labelling with nitrogen-15 shows that both the nitro- and nitrate group in the latter compound contribute to m/e 30 (NO+) in approximately equal amounts, whereas most of the NO2+ formed originates in the nitrate group.
