β-Leprosol: the identification of a trialkylresorcinol from bacterial lipids

Abstract

The surviving sample of β-leprosol, obtained in 1936 from lipids of Mycobacferium leprae, is identified as a mixture of the monomethyl ethers of 5-n-heptadecyl- and 5-n-pentadecyl-4,6-dimethylresorcinol.
