Modification strategies for enhancing the visible light responsive photocatalytic activity of the BiPO4 nano-based composite photocatalysts

Abstract

Semiconductor photocatalysts such as TiO2, ZnO, g-C3N4, BiPO4, etc., have received significant research interest due to the ability of these metals to convert pollutants into CO2 and H2O for environmental applications in areas such as energy, environmental purification and wastewater treatment. A nonmetallic oxyacid type photocatalyst, BiPO4, is now commonly accepted as a high-class photocatalyst as compared to TiO2 and other photocatalysts in the ultraviolet (UV) region. Herein, the novel structure and the modification techniques of full-bodied BiPO4 nano-based photocatalysts are presented, and the present-day improvements in the photocatalytic activity of BiPO4via its emerging crystal structure modification strategies are highlighted, along with preparation techniques for the nano-based composite photocatalyst. An account is also given of the use of the remarkable structural properties and the modification techniques of BiPO4 nano-based photocatalysts. It is expected that this report will enlighten scientists on the precise management and evaluation of the environment, which may lead to prospective research on developing a suitable mechanism for applications in energy, wastewater treatment and environmental purification.
